The exigent International Security Assistance Force or ISAF was an international armed force pledged in 2001 in support of Afghanistan. The ISAF patch is the traditional single crimson patch worn on the uniform of the soldiers from various countries who take part in the mission that contributed to making Afghanistan stable and make it possible for the country to rebuild itself. ISAF patch has a white star in the center of blue circle in the middle of it. The star depicted is the hope that the people of Afghanistan received from the North Star during those times. The symbol of a blue circle means the United Nations, which involved in the authorization of the formation of ISAF.
The ISAF patch was created to be easy to identify and remember in a theatre of war. They believed it also had to accommodate culture of the Afghani people. Soldiery of over 40 states wore the patch and it formed recognition of collective effort and cooperation in the battlefield.
ISAF patch was considered as a symbol of International Community’s support to Afghanistan. Thus, people pinned their hopes for the best, which was a kind of insistence that the world wanted to see Iraq stable and calm.
ISAF’s mission was completed in 2014, but the ISAF patch for Afghanistan will remain the logo of the international coalition to support Afghanistan. It is a sign of the many volunteers from all over the world that gave their lives in order to assist the Afghan people.
